On Friday, I became a Ms. It was one of the most special days of my life.
I met my other half 11 years ago when I was only 19. I was visiting London for the summer from Canada and as fate had it, I was invited to tag along to my cousin's friend's sister's engagement party. I was sitting at a booth having a Bacardi Breezer when the groom-to-be's youngest brother walked in, unashamedly watching me, and smiling the biggest most charming grin I'd ever seen (still to this day only one-upped by our daughter's!). He captured me instaneously. But then, I wasn't the only one.
Despite our undeniable chemistry and instant friendship, he was really only a summer romance, shall we say. We both went back to our real lives and I never expected to see him again. I could never take him seriously and he was not at all the sort I thought would ever settle down. Then again, neither was I. But lo and behold, 6 years later, there we were, accidentally in love. Two years later, we were living together, two years after that, we welcomed our baby girl into the world, and last Friday, we were unlawfully married.
Yes, I said unlawfully.
